ABS-CBN Master Teleserye 'Ikaw Lamang' Lauded by Viewers, Netizens

ABS-CBN’s master teleserye “Ikaw Lamang” quickly captured the hearts of TV viewers as the premiere of the series starring Teleserye King Coco Martin and Teleserye Princess Kim Chiu won the national TV ratings and became a hot topic on social media.

According to data from Kantar Media last Monday (March 10), “Ikaw Lamang’s” pilot episode scored a national TV rating of 27.4%, or almost 12 points higher than its rival program on GMA, “Carmela” (16.1%). The show also conquered social networking sites such as Twitter, where the hashtag #IkawLamangGrandPilot became the number one worldwide trending topic.

TV viewers and netizens alike praised the story, casting, cinematography, musical scoring, and production design of ABS-CBN’s master teleserye.

For award-winning director Jerome Pobocan, “Ikaw Lamang” is the must-watch teleserye of the season.

“The scenes are beautifully photographed and sensitively directed. It is a magnificent display of thespian craft by both its young and adult stellar cast,” said Direk Jerome.

Entertainment editor Dindo Balares, on the other hand, shared that what he loved the most about the series is its main theme. “The story is epic. It mirrors the huge difference between the lives of Filipinos who are extremely wealthy and extremely poor.”

Meanwhile, TV viewers will surely be more hooked on the thickening plot of “Ikaw Lamang” now that Coco, Kim, Jake Cuenca, and Julia Montes will soon appear in the series as the friends Samuel, Isabelle, Franco, and Mona.

Coco Martin: 'Sumama ang loob ko sa ABS-CBN'

King of Teleserye Coco Martin revealed that he felt bad over ABS-CBN when he was rejected by the network twice because he was a sexy actor.

"Actually, dalawang beses ako tinanggihan ng ABS-CBN noon. 'Yung may isang soap si Ms. Judy Ann Santos and then nag-inquire sa amin. Okay na ang talent fee and role tapos mamaya tinawagan kami at sinabing 'Ano eh, bold star pala yan. Hindi pupwede," Coco shared on Aquino and Abunda Tonight.

Coco said that the second time he was rejected by ABS-CBN for the same reason was for a project that will suppose to pit him in a love triangle with Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.

ABS-CBN’s master teleserye “Ikaw Lamang” will begin to capture the hearts of primetime TV viewers on Monday (March 10) as the ‘once in a lifetime TV event’ gathers some of the country’s most brilliant actors.

“Ikaw Lamang” will feature the first team-up of Teleserye King Coco Martin and Teleserye Princess Kim Chiu, together with two of the most talented actors of their generation, Jake Cuenca and Julia Montes.

Completing the powerhouse cast of “Ikaw Lamang” are multi-awarded actors, namely Ronaldo Valdez, Tirso Cruz III, Cherry Pie Picache, Cherie Gil, John Estrada, Daria Ramirez, Meryl Soriano, Spanky Manikan, and Lester Llansang.

“Ikaw Lamang” revolves around the story of the hardworking son of a farm worker named Samuel (Coco) who falls in love with a haciendera named Isabelle (Kim). Despite being apart from each other because of their families’ differences, Samuel and Isabelle will find their way back to each other’s arms after so many years.

How long can a person wait for his greatest love? Will time be able to erase what the heart holds true or will it strengthen the ties of star-crossed lovers who are ready to fight for their relationship against all odds?

Teleserye King Coco Martin and Teleserye Princess Kim Chiu are both excited about their highly anticipated return to primetime TV through ABS-CBN’s upcoming drama series “Ikaw Lamang.”

Kim Chiu Says Teleserye with Xian Lim Still A Go

Primetime Princess Kim Chiu confirmed that she will reunite with love team Xian Lim in another teleserye. In an interview with entertainment website Pep.ph, Kim revealed the next plans of the network for the KimXi tandem.

"Hindi naman siya bubuwagin (KimXi)... isang project lang [kami magkahiwalay ni Xian] and then after that, we're gonna have teleserye together at may movie kami sa third quarter ni Xian," Kim said. "Sana suportahan ulit iyon ng mga tao parang Bride For Rent."

Many fans of Kim and Xian reacted negatively on the decision of the management to pair the actress with another actor, this time with Coco Martin, for the upcoming period drama Ikaw Lamang. According to Kim, they can't do anything about it because it's management's decision.

"Yun din ang hindi ko maintindihan pero sumusunod lang kami bilang workers ng ABS-CBN. Sila ang nagdesisyon nun, and nalungkot din naman kami in a way. Pero siyempre ito yung binigay sa amin and hindi naman kami makakapili kung ano talaga," Kim said regarding the decision to put her and Xian in different projects for the meantime.

Kim, however, said that some KimXi fans were still happy for her new project with Coco and have already learned to accept the decision of ABS-CBN. She just advised KimXi fans to wait for their next project together, a movie which will be shown third quarter of 2014.

"Masaya kami na yung ibang KimXi, masaya sila. Parang natanggap na rin nila. Nandiyan lang sila kahit hiwalay yung project namin and masaya kami na naririnig namin yun. Antayin na lang nila yung movie namin ni Xian."

Sarah Geronimo and Coco Martin Movie Starts Shooting Next Week

Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo and Indie Prince Coco Martin will be paired in an upcoming movie. The still untitled movie of Sarah and Coco will start shooting next week according to reports.

Sarah Geronimo and Coco Martin attended the story conference for the said movie last February 6. The movie is another collaboration of Star Cinema and Viva Films and will be directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng.

According to Coco, he was both nervous and pressured working with Sarah in this movie.

"Siyempre 'pag sinabi mong Sarah geronimo, mataas ang expectations ng tao. Sanay ako sa mga indie [films], kumbaga ito ang nakasanayan kong mundo and then ngayon papasok ako sa mundo ng mainstream at si Sarah Geronimo pa yung makakasama ko. Honestly, napakalaking pressure po para sa akin," Coco told ABS-CBN's Mario Dumaual. [WATCH THE VIDEO HERE]

Meanwhile, Sarah is equally honored and pressured to be working with Coco, who is one of the most-awarded actors of his generation.

"Galing galing niya talaga eh so dapat talaga sa pagkakataon na ito, makahabol talaga ako sa kanya," Sarah said.

Sarah and Coco will be joined by actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez in this movie, who said that she's very excited to be working with the singer. She also revealed that it was actually her first time (during the storycon) to meet Coco Martin in person, who she found cute.

Ruffa will be playing Sarah's mentor and will give one of the twists in the story.

The movie will be Sarah and Coco's first big screen team up. However, the two were already paired in the short-lived musical series Idol (stylized as 1DOL) way back in 2010.

Coco Martin, Megan Young, Cory Vidanes Among 2013's 'People of the Year' Awardees

ABS-CBN Broadcast Head Cory Vidanes was among the 14 personalities recognized by People Asia magazine in its annual “People of the Year” for her vital role in the achievements of the country’s largest media conglomerate over the past years, particularly her involvement and passionate support for the network’s public service campaigns.

“Servicing the Filipino people— that’s what we’re really here for. Our work is tough. There is so much stress, sacrifices, and sleepless nights. But at the end of the day, what keeps us going is the mission to reach out to Pinoys all over the world,” said Vidanes in the article.

In its 14th anniversary issue, People Asia highlighted how Vidanes can work quietly on the sidelines and achieve greatness without calling much attention to it.

Aside from spearheading campaigns that further increased ABS-CBN’s ratings, Vidanes has been very much involved in the network’s public service projects that include the network’s recent “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na” campaign for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.

“I feel that I was put in this place by God because this is my purpose. If I can touch, empower or inspire the Filipino in any way I can, then I will always stay in ABS-CBN,” she added.

Other ABS-CBN personalities included on the list were actor Coco Martin, who was recognized for his contribution to Philippine television and cinema, and Miss World 2013 Megan Young, for being the first Filipina to win the much-coveted title after 62 years and for her embodiment of the pageant’s credo ‘beauty with a purpose.’

In 2010, ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio was also among the “People of the Year” awardees for being the first female president of the country’s leading media corporation.

People Asia began the ‘People of the Year’ awards back in 2004. It aims to recognize world-class Filipinos who have made the country proud with their achievements, advocacies, and notable contributions to the Filipino society.

Kim Chiu and Coco Martin Tandem in New ABS-CBN Teleserye

Primetime royalties Coco Martin and Kim Chiu are said to be working together in an upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye. Reports said that Kim will be Coco's leading lady in his comeback teleserye, a period drama with a working title Ikaw Lamang.

"Si Kim Chiu pala ang bagong leading lady ni Coco Martin sa bago niyang teleserye sa ABS-CBN at take note, hindi na kasama ang ka-loveteam ng aktres na si Xian Lim sa proyektong ito," entertainment columnist Reggee Bonoan wrote in his article in Bandera.

According to the published article, Coco Martin and Kim Chiu will be joined by Jake Cuenca and Julia Montes in the upcoming project. Childstar Xyriel Manabat is also in the cast.

In one of his interviews, Coco revealed that he will be working on his teleserye soon after he finished shooting for the movie Padre de Familia which also stars Montes and superstar Nora Aunor. The actor also said that this new project will be an action-drama.

If indeed this is true, then ABS-CBN might be trying new pairing just like what they did with Kimerald (Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson). However, is ABS-CBN ready to let go of the popularity of the KimXi tandem this early?

Coco Martin on Captain Barbell Role: "Baka pagtawanan ako."

Award-winning actor Coco Martin downplayed rumors that he was offered the role of the Captain Barbell when ABS-CBN starts its own production of the iconic superhero by Mars Ravelo.

"Hindi, hindi [inalok sa akin]," Coco told ABS-CBN News when asked if he was the chosen one  to reprise the Filipino superhero on the network's TV adaptation.

After the revelation of Anne Curtis as the new Dyesebel, ABS-CBN started to air teasers for the next  Mars Ravelo's characters who will be given life again, including Darna and Captain Barbell.

Coco Martin said even though the project was huge, the role of Captain Barbell may not fit him because of his height. According to the Juan Dela Cruz star, he could only pass as Captain Barbell's alter-ego, Teng.

"Hindi. Ang liit ko. Baka 'yung kapag naging superhero na siya hindi na ako 'yon. Ako 'yung normal. Maganda 'yung proyekto pero baka hindi sa akin bagay, baka pagtawanan ako," he said.

Coco is now working on his upcoming indie film Padre de Familia [read more about the movie here] with Nora Aunor and Julia Montes. After the movie, Coco revealed that he will headline another ABS-CBN teleserye.

Coco Martin, Julia Montes, Nora Aunor Star in Padre de Familia Movie 2014

Superstar Nora Aunor will be working together with Coco Martin and Julia Montes in the upcoming film Padre de Familia (Padre de Pamilya). The movie, which is being shot on location in Malaysia, is directed by Adolf Alix Jr.

In Padre de Familia, Nora Aunor will be playing the troubled matriarch Aida while Coco Martin will be his son Noel who only wants the best for their family. Julia Montes is Pia who will have a big role in Noel's life. 

Padre de Pamilya will be the first time that Nora Aunor will be working with both Coco and Julia while the latter tandem has already topbilled their movie A Moment In Time last year.

Aside from Coco, Julia and Nora, the movie, features a dream cast of powerhouse actors including Rosanna Roces, Baron Geisler, Joel Torre, Joem Bascon, Miles Ocampo, Manuel Chua, Paolo Diangson and Ms. Anita Linda.

"PADRE DE FAMILIA. Sino nga ba ang tumatayong haligi ng tahanan? Ang mapagparayang ina o ang anak na nagtataguyod ng lahat? Based on the screenplay of Ralston Jover, Nikki Bunquin & Jerry Gracio, Padre de Familia is one gigantic movie you shouldn't miss this 2014.

12th Gawad Tanglaw 2013 Winners: ABS-CBN TV Station of the Year; Coco, Gerald and Judy Ann Best Actors and Actress

ABS-CBN wins big at the 12th Gawad Tanglaw 2013 Awards held Friday night. The Kapamilya network was also hailed TV Station of the Year.

Coco Martin and Judy Ann Santos won Best Performance by an Actor and Actress, respectively for their roles in their series Juan Dela Cruz and Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala, which also bagged the Best TV Series award.

Meanwhile, Gerald Anderson won Best Single Performance by an Actor for his portrayal in an episode (Bituin) of Asia's longest drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya.

2014 Predictions for Sarah Geronimo, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla
